The Strawless Ocean pledge
A simple, personal commitment with global impact. Read the full pledge, take it, share it.
The full pledge text
"I commit to refusing single-use plastic straws. When I need a straw, I'll choose a marine-friendly alternative — paper, hay, glass, steel, silicone, or bamboo. I recognize that some of my fellow citizens require a flexible plastic straw to drink safely, and I support keeping these alternatives available for those who need them. I'll share this commitment with my friends, my favorite restaurants, and my community to help spark systemic change. For A Strawless Ocean."
What the pledge means in practice
- You commit to refusing plastic straws by default. Order with "no straw, please." Carry a reusable if you actually use straws often.
- You commit to choosing marine-friendly alternatives when you do need a straw. See the alternatives guide.
- You explicitly support disability-community access to flexible plastic straws. The pledge is not a "ban all straws" pledge.
- You commit to advocacy. Sharing the pledge, asking restaurants why they default to straws, supporting policy in your area.

Take The PledgeShare your commitment
The pledge spreads when people see it taken. After signing:
- Post about it with #StopSucking on social media
- Tag three friends to challenge them
- Ask your favorite restaurant or café about their plastic-straw policy
Take the next step
The pledge is the beginning, not the end. The deeper actions:
- Switch to a reusable if you use straws daily — see the options
- Run a campaign at your school, workplace, or community — school playbook
- Support local policy — where bans have and haven't passed
- Read deeper — the science of why this matters
