Strawless Ocean

IT’S TIME TO GET PEOPLE TO STOP SUCKING.

In America alone, we use 500 million plastic straws every day.

Many of those straws end up in our oceans, polluting the water and harming sea life.

If we don’t act now, by 2050 plastics in the ocean will outweigh the fish.

What Are We Doing About It?

At SXSW, we’re launching #StopSucking — a national campaign aimed at getting everyone to stop using the plastic straw. To draw attention to this important cause, you can use the power of your celebrity in a SXSW experience called “SUCKER PUNCH.”

We invite you to join this important effort as one of our celebrity slappers.

On March 11, our SUCKER PUNCH activation will be one of the featured events at the Mashable House party. In super slow motion, we’ll capture video of volunteers as the plastic straw is slapped right out of their mouth with an octopus tentacle wielded by you — all for a worthy cause.

The gifs and videos you’ll help us create at SXSW are highly shareable and majorly “meme-able.” Bringing needed attention to the plight of our oceans and forcing plastic straws to go the way of the plastic bag.

After the Mashable event, we’ll release a compilation video, complete with behind-the-scenes footage of how you helped get hundreds of people to #StopSucking. One simple swing by you launches the Strawless Ocean movement.
